The Studio

Five people, one couch, a lot of coffee.

We started Pirelanoq above a record shop on Brunswick Street in 2018, swapping tabletop nights for a shared dream of shipping our own game. Today we are a five-person team building hand-drawn adventures from a sun-lit studio on Nicholson Street in Fitzroy.

Every character is animated by hand, every soundtrack is recorded with local Melbourne musicians, and every mechanic is tested on the beat-up sofa in our lounge. We make games that feel like a warm evening in — unhurried, curious, and a little bit strange.

Players

What people say after they put the controller down.

Marmalade Coast got me through a rough winter. I have never played anything so gentle and still so hard to put down. The cooking mini-game alone is worth it.

Went to Arcade Nights on a whim and stayed until close. The team actually sat down and played with us. Felt like being let into someone’s living room.

Tom H.

I joined a playtest for Lantern Hollow and my feedback actually made it into the game. Seeing a puzzle I suggested in the final build was unreal.

Mei L.
Brunswick, VIC · January 2025

My 13-year-old did the school workshop and hasn’t stopped making tiny games since. The instructors were patient and genuinely kind. Highly recommend.

Good to Know

Questions before you press start.

Marmalade Coast and Lantern Hollow are available on PC (Steam and itch.io) and Nintendo Switch. We are a small team, so console releases usually follow the PC launch by a few months. All our games are single-purchase with no microtransactions.

No booking needed — entry is free and runs every Thursday from 6pm to 10pm at our Nicholson Street studio. We can comfortably fit about 40 people, so arrive before 7pm on busy weeks. Bring your own snacks; we supply the drinks and the controllers.

Playtests run fortnightly and last about ninety minutes. You play an early build while we watch and take notes, then chat through what worked and what didn’t. Everyone who takes part gets a free copy of the finished game and a credit in the closing titles.

Yes. Our games are rated G to PG in Australia — there is no violence, and the tone is warm and relaxed. Marmalade Coast and Lantern Hollow are especially popular with families, and our school workshops are built for ages 12 to 17.

Our Nicholson Street studio is a working space, so drop-ins aren’t possible, but we love visitors during Arcade Nights and playtests. For press, partnership, or workshop enquiries, email us and we’ll happily arrange a time.
